ALHAMBRA, Los Angeles County — October 23, 2026. A dated official city record documents this development. California58 Local explains the practical implications while separating announced plans and ballot questions from completed actions and future election results.

Where is the project?

The city’s current Green Street Demonstration Project covers Main Street between Fremont Avenue and Hampden Terrace. This is not an effort to reconstruct all of Main Street. The municipal description names median widening, curb extensions, native plantings, drywells and bioretention areas as ways to manage runoff and improve the streetscape.

What about mature trees?

The revised city plan says six large heritage trees will be preserved and 37 new trees planted. Those are planned construction elements; the final survival, maintenance and canopy outcomes should be measured after installation, rather than presumed from a landscape rendering.

When does work end?

The city’s updated project page says construction has commenced and estimates completion around September 2027, with intermittent partial closures throughout the construction period. Older web descriptions gave different anticipated timelines, so residents should rely on the updated project page and dated field notices rather than the original projection.

Who funds and manages the work?

Funding sources listed include state Urban Greening Grant, Los Angeles County Safe Clean Water and Measure A grant resources, and City of Alhambra contributions. For construction updates the city lists phone 626-570-5061 and lwaters@alhambraca.gov. Drivers and pedestrians should follow posted restrictions.
